Photos and Characters

Choosing the right photo, how characters are made, and getting the likeness right.

What kind of photo works best?

A clear, well-lit photo where your child's face is fully visible works best. Use one child per photo, facing the camera, without sunglasses, heavy shadows, or motion blur. The better we can see their face, the closer the illustrated character will match.

Is my child's photo stored?

Unpurchased drafts expire after 48 hours. Inputs needed by open payments, paid portrait review or active generation are kept until approval or release makes them unnecessary, then deleted through retryable cleanup.

What if the character does not look right?

Review and adjust new portraits in your paid book before approving them. Existing books and reused portraits keep their saved images. Contact support for help. Each new portrait includes two adjustment attempts for this book. Reused portraits stay as they are. A successful adjustment uses an attempt even if you keep the original. Failed attempts are restored. Contact support when no more adjustments are available.

Why is a character tied to one art style?

Each character can have portraits in several of our 10 art styles. Reuse a saved portrait in the same style without another upload. A missing style version is created with your next paid book. For a photo-created character, upload the original photo again for the new style. Your saved styles stay together in the character library.
